Anne, Faith and Hope
Malcolm McIllmuray Anne died in St John's Hospice, Lancaster (UK) at the age of 30 from breast cancer. Thirty years later, Anne's story is told by Malcolm McIllmurray DM FRCP, consultant physician and medical oncologist, now retired. He was appointed in 1978 to North Lancashire and South Lakeland where he helped to establish St John's Hospice of which for many years he was medical director. He is Life President of CancerCare, which he also helped to found, as well as being an Honorary Professor and Honorary Fellow of Lancaster University. In Anne, Faith and Hope, which is described in the Foreword by Susie Roth SRN, Matron at St John's Hospice from 1994 to 1999, as a moving and insightful act of remembrance of Anne, Malcolm McIllmurray tells Anne's story from his own perspective and also in the words of Anne's sister Jill, Sister Aine Cox of St John's Hospice, and Lynne Alexander, who was at that time Writer-in-Residence at the Hospice. Anne also speaks for herself through her eloquent poems and a series of extraordinary self-portraits, all of which are reproduced in full colour in this book and which reveal, in a most remarkable way, the depth and intensity of her experience towards the end of her life. Her story, in which despair and fear become transformed into calmness and peace, is truly inspirational and uplifting and will help to bring peace and hope to those suffering from cancer, as well as to their families, friends, carers and all others associated with them. All proceeds from the sale of this book will be donated in full to the two charities: St John's Hospice and CancerCare. | Marius Press Tel: +44 (0)1524 733027 |
